Why Most Agency Websites Fail to Convert (And What to Do About It)
The problem with most agency websites
Most agency websites make the same set of mistakes. They look polished, they have nice typography, and they immediately start talking about themselves. The visitor has no idea what the agency does in plain language, who they work with, or why they should care.
Mistake 1: Leading with your process, not your client's problem
Your homepage is not about you. It is about the person reading it. Most agencies open with "We are a full-service agency..." - but the visitor's first thought is "so what does that mean for me?"
Mistake 2: No proof above the fold
The highest-value real estate on your website is the first screen without scrolling. Most agencies waste it on aesthetics. The best agencies put their best proof there - a metric, a client name, a result.
Mistake 3: Too many CTAs
When everything is a call to action, nothing is. We see agency sites with "Read our blog", "See our services", "Meet the team", "Download our guide", and "Book a call" all on the same page, above the fold.
Mistake 4: Case studies with no numbers
"We redesigned the website and the client was very happy" is not a case study. It is a testimonial at best.
Mistake 5: No clear next step
We understand why agencies keep project details vague - every engagement is different. But vague calls to action leave potential clients unsure what happens next.
Mistake 6: Portfolio hidden deep in the site
Your work is your strongest sales tool. Most agencies bury it three clicks deep.
Mistake 7: Generic copy that could describe any agency
"We are passionate about design." "We believe in building relationships." "We are committed to excellence."
These phrases appear on 50,000 agency websites and communicate absolutely nothing.
The bottom line
None of these fixes require a full redesign. Most of them are content decisions that you can implement in a week. The agencies that convert well are not always the best designers - they are the most clear communicators.
